- Characterize daily conditions on the sun.
- Study the physical processes operating on the sun and their variability.
|
How Will It Do This? |
- The Evans facility acquires daily images of the sun usually in H alpha, Calcium K, and D3.
- Observations are made of the short time-scale phenomena such as flares, prominences and active regions that appear when the Sun is active as well as structures on the quiet Sun such as spicules and supergranules.
- Telescope time is given to scientists for specific studies.

Observatory Description |
- Located on Sacramento Peak high a bove Alamagordo, NM. Sac Peak is noted for its excellent daytime sky quality.
- Because of the quality of the sky, the Evans facility is able to make full disk images of the Sun at selected wavelengths as well as block out the Sun and image the Sun's outermost atmosphere, the corona.
